La Route à Huelgoat
On Friday long after day’s dawning
Tim’s gear cable snapped without warning
But some YouTube tricks
Provided a fix
And he cycled on two gears all morning
It was hot and humid all day
Veloroute for most of the way
No cooling breeze
No view but the trees
A bit boring quite soon, shame to say
By Carhaix we were parched and quite drained
Food and drink somewhat eased the pain
But a one hour stop
By the bicycle shop
And I was hot and grumpy again
Up one long last hill into Huelgoat
Which is a beautiful spot, you know
At the Hotel du Lac
We got back on track
Rehydrating with beer just for show
Over supper and quite a few drinks
Tim told of his Moscow high jinx
How a Christian plot
Caused a naive clot
To be repatriated for subversive links
We enjoyed the fruits of local farms
Before exploring Huelgoat’s charms
The town should disown
The “Trembling Stone”
And make more of the Brittany Arms.
